How do you inventory the new IT infrastructure?

Hello,
When accepting a new project, company, office... one of the first things to do is to make a complete inventory, as is assessment, etc.
Does anyone use any templates, checklists, rules?
please share.

did it in two ways:
1. received an unloading from the accounting department / look at the incoming documentation: as a result, we are looking for what should be.
2. made a template in excel
serial number / manufacturer's name and model / office, building / full name of the MOL / full name of the User / quantity
