How do portals keep track of application versions?

Hello! I am interested in the following question, maybe someone knows.
I thought about creating my own web service for android mobile applications. I walked through the giants, namely pdalife, androeed, and actually how they all keep track of game versions and updates. Let's say there are 10 applications. Tracking them is much easier than 10,000 apps. Are parsers created for such purposes?
