How do locks work on the Brush tab?

It is not possible to see the difference in the Shape Dynamics item with the lock turned off and on. How do both of these modes work? and what to do to see the difference in their application?

I don't understand what the manual is about.

What is blocked (those options and settings) does not change when you select another brush from the presets (right-click on the field for example) That is, you can quickly select another brush but leaving the current spreading settings, etc.
