How do I get iCloud to ask me if I need to save data to the cloud?

Hey!
My brand new 2017 macbook pro only lasts 3 hours on a charge. I checked with the EtreCheckPro utility and found out that I have a lot of requests to iCloud, which is probably why the macbook cooler is often noisy. Tell me how to make iCloud work when I really need it.

if you are sure that this is the case, firewall the icloud addresses. or add them to /etc/hosts.
