How do I cancel itunes constant attempts to download previously purchased apps?

It happens that you need to download an application from iTunes, but right now you do not need it.
You press the "get" button in iTunes, the application starts downloading to your computer. Almost immediately after that, you cancel the download of the application (so that it does not take up space on your hard drive).
Thus, there are already several dozen applications that itunes tries to download every time I start itunes.
How do I undo these iTunes constant attempts to download previously purchased apps? (so you don't have to cancel downloading them every time)
