How do encodings work on different OS?

Character encoding

Wrote an application on Sharpe in which there are mathematical symbols. If you run on XP, then all unusual characters turn into squares. Curious to know why and how it can be fixed? And is there any possibility to add such symbols to the ancient wasps: V ⊕ ?

Carry the font with you. As far as I remember, there was a patch in Windows that added symbols to the built-in fonts. I don't know if there was such a patch for XP.
