How do digital clocks know the exact time?

There should be a controller, a microcircuit and a quartz resonator, but how do these interact together?

conventional clocks do not have a precise time source.
inside is usually quartz at 32768 hertz with an approximate accuracy of + - a couple of seconds per day.
for ordinary life, such accuracy is enough for the eyes.
the exact time is now done via the Internet , the GPS system, cellular communications.
used to use time verification signals propagated through radio frequencies.
