How cooperative is the mining pool?

Is it a cluster? Is it a task dispatcher/queue or just a normal probability distribution tool? Suppose a new blockchain is launched and there are 10 miners and five of them (let's call them soloists) mine solo, and five (let's call them choristers) mine in a pool. Will choristers collectively mine more soloists in a year?
