How can ping work properly, curl and the browser don't?

DD. Weird issue on Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.4!
Specified in /etc/hosts a new IP address for the host. Such a domain exists! ping at the same time shows a new ip-address, and the browser and curl in the console still go to the old IP. At the same time, there is a virtual machine, on which they did the same thing, and still there are requests for the old IP.
I did the same on a real VPS and everything is fine there (debian). Those. the problem is in my car, what could be? where to look? DNS cleaned everything, cleaned everywhere where it was 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4. Dropped the DNS cache, rebooted the PC, still the problem remains

The problem turned out to be in the RT-AC68U router, after the update everything became normal.

Have you cleared the browser cache too?
