How can I reduce the size of the PDF that wkhtmltopdf generates?

PDF of 1-2 pages without pictures, i.e. it's just that the text that wkhtmltopdf generates is ~5 MB in size.
7-8 pages is insane 40 MB!
The -l option doesn't help. Those. doesn't react to it at all.
Important! Generation not from the console, but programmatically, i.e. post-processing by hand is not an option.
