How can I find out if there is overlapping partitions on a disk?
I just decided to check acronis true image.
Everything was done on a virtual machine.
0. Using gparted (linux) I created a data partition on the disk (put backups there) at the end of the disk so that 128GiB is empty at the beginning.
1. Installed windows 8 on that empty place 128GiB, while Windows created two system partitions in this place (I have nothing against it, just for information).
2.Backup mbr with dd (linux) (to track changes later).
3. I backed up two Windows system partitions with Acronis.
4. I backed up the mbr with dd and compared it with what I created in step 2.
mbr are the same - good.
5. I restored two Windows system partitions with Acronis (I did not choose to restore mbr).
6. I backed up mbr with dd and compared it with what I created in step 4.
mbr turned out to be different. Why? I looked at the changed bytes in mbr backups. The addresses are just in the partition table area. I can’t understand why Akronis touches partitions at all? I did not change the partition sizes, I left everything by default.
I decided to check the acronis because there are a lot of bad reviews about it on the Internet ... that it spoils partitions ... And not long ago I learned that there is such a thing as overlapping partitions. I understand mbr very poorly and I suspect that Acronis just did something with the partitions ... Although, I still had the idea that Acronis just fixed it as it should, and before that there was an overlap or something else (whether Windows, or gparted did something ).
In general, explain something about overlapping partitions and what do you think about acronis true image and its effect on partitions.

First, I'll explain about overlapping sections.
The partition table has such concepts as the beginning of a partition and its end. If the end of one goes beyond the beginning of another section, this is the overlap.
As for the fact that Acronis overwrote the partition table... this is absolutely normal, it most likely erased the old partitions and copied their backups to other places.
I actively use TrueImage - I have never encountered problems at all ...
