As vnc said above. However, you can set up a tunnel via ssh to connect to X11 or just via ssh, I highly recommend this method

- Where do you want to connect? Different environments have different properties. For example, to connect from work, you need to coordinate the issue with local admins (and if it works "and so" - well, that means such admins :D). To connect with an Internet cafe, you need to at least secure the connection a little etc
- Do you have a "white" IP at home? Its presence will greatly simplify the process, its absence will complicate it somewhat and force you to drive the desktop through third-party servers, which is not always acceptable.
