How are taxonomies different from the new post types?

Welcome all. Can you please tell me if I understand correctly that in WP you can create new post types without creating a taxonomy, if posts should have only one single section? Well, for example, a news section without any grouping of records.
Or is it still better to create a taxonomy, a single term, and already bind records of a new type to it?

PS I'm trying to understand the meaning of using the register_taxonomy and register_post_type functions.

You don't have to create a taxonomy for a post type. Posts in the "Pages" section feel great without taxonomies
