How are cheats made for games?
Interested in how scripts work. Take GTA V for example. Cheaters can give themselves items, restore health, and so on. How it's done?
PS I am against cheats

There are three different approaches:
1) changing the values of memory cells
1a) changing the code / saving on disk
2) proxying network traffic
3) spoofing I/O
In a network game, you can "cheat" only on what the server is given at the mercy of the client.
If, for example, health is controlled on the server, nothing can be done.
It all depends on the specific game. There are developers who fiercely wield a banhammer for even a suspicion of a cheat, but there are those who don’t give a damn.
In shooting games, you can make aim-bota, for example, so that each bullet flies into the enemy’s head (even if you shoot with your back to him), map hacking is popular in strategies - when the entire map (and enemy units) become visible, etc.
If the game offline - everything is allowed here. We climb into the memory of the process and modify whatever our heart desires.
Most recently, I talked about codes in games for a blog: why do game developers create them and why have they become less and less lately?
