How to host your portfolio site on Github Pages?
I read about transferring a site using Jekyll.
Is it possible to create a private repository, upload a wordpress site to it. and to place the database remotely on some kind of hosting?
Or where else can you upload your portfolio?

Github Pages is designed for static sites without a backend

Place the site on a regular hosting and insert it into github pages via iframe. xD

If you buy GitHub from Microsoft, then you can do whatever you want with it (with GitHub).
But if you can afford it, then you don't need a portfolio either.
And if on business, then only static sites, or you can write an SPA or PWA with a back-end on FireBase.
