Highslide alternative?

Now I'm using the highslide js script in the gallery+preview mode below.
For a very long time I could not understand what it did not suit me, in the end, when they poked my nose, it became clear - navigation, or rather the navigation bar. No matter how you arrange it or change its accessible form, it does not satisfy the needs of the average user.
The average user is already used to the fact that if you click on the enlarged photo, the next one will be shown. And then there is the closure. The navigation buttons are not immediately noticeable, and are not convenient for such mundane activities as viewing photos. It would be desirable something like as in contact.
Approximately as I imagine it, maybe someone has met analogues with similar functionality?

Make it so that when you click it does not close, but shows the next one. Business then...
