Help me choose a router

Please help me with choosing a home router.

Required parameters:

  • 5GHz band support
  • Connection via L2TP (not Corbin, so their typical routing problem is not relevant).
  • Desirable - resistance to high temperatures (in our summer - it easily reaches + 40˚С)
  • Connecting an external hard drive via USB (Currently formatted in Ext3)

Candidates:
Linksys E4200 (I consider E3000 as an option , but I would like to know what its advantages are, except for a lower price).
ASUS RT-N56U

The main device that will be connected wirelessly is the MacBook Pro (I don't think it affects much, but I pointed it out just in case).

The price is also one of the important factors, but since I choose the device for more than one year, the other factors are more significant.

Linksys already has DD-WRT firmware. There will be one (or "From enthusiasts") for ASUS'a - it's not clear.

ASUS is a good company, but they have some problems with routers (overheating for example). In terms of Linksys, I have not seen this, and the daughter of Cisco, and this already says a lot.

By myself, I can say that there were certain problems with Asus (just with Corbina). You can solve them, but it's too annoying. The Linksys wrt54gl has performed very well and works with two different providers (dhcp in one case and pptp in the other). From the basic functionality, Static dhcp records were very lacking, so I had to switch to dd-wrt

Over the past few years, I have been the owner of several routers from Asus, so for me there would be no question of choice - Asus. And as for custom firmware, dd-wrt also becomes asus, but there is also a firmware “from Oleg” and its development : code.google.com/p/wl500g/

There is also Netgear WNDR3700 - the hardware is very strong, but, unfortunately, L2TP support is only in alternative firmware (like OpenWRT).

Cisco is certainly fine, but I would advise you to take a closer look at the WNDR4000 from NetGear. It turns out to be a little better in speed than the E4200. At home.
