Heavy CPU usage when doing apt-get\aptitude update. How to overcome?

Hello. Installed Debian Jessie. There is an increase in CPU usage when running aptitude update\apt-get update commands. This is fine?

I doubt that a simple check for updates should create such a load. Is there any way to lower it?

@neol

For an atom, this is normal.
If this load interferes with other processes, you can lower the priority of aptitude:
nice -n 20 aptitude update

Switch to Windows, you will install only what you see fit, the habit of updating everything will disappear, as Windows will show you the true face of updates when you have to fall asleep with the display on with the text "Settings ... do not turn off the computer" after that with the word update you will have the right associations, that is, negative ones.

And sort by the CPU column and see what exactly loads ONE core out of 4?
Maybe there is a combined load?
Still missing those. server characteristics. If there is Atom - judging by the name of the host, then it is quite understandable.
Yes, load average says that the load is small. If you didn’t have 0.40, but for example 3.90, yes, that’s a big load

Try turning off package diff: https://debian-administration.org/article/439/Avoi...
This is relevant for raspberrypi, where I saw a comment that it is better to turn off pdiff on weak cpu. It will probably help you too.
