Has anyone used ubuntu desktop over rdp (or whatever) for development?
Hello.
The task is to get rid of being tied to a powerful laptop and the idea for development (webstorm, intellij, gulp, node, etc.) to use ubuntu desktop in a virtual machine (32gb, SSD, etc.) - on a powerful server (esxi / proxmox) somewhere in hetzner or ovh. Connect to it via RDP/FreeNX/or something else. In general, do not become attached to the local hardware at all.
The essence of the question: has anyone ever done this and what is the result in terms of convenience?
PS Experiments in haste in AWS EC2 + XRDP showed that, in general, the norms on a more or less normal Internet, but I want to hear real experience.

Do not use rdp, it's a Windows protocol with a clear implementation level.
Use x2go. I myself use x2go for a spare desktop, I've been doing this for three years, I'm happy with everything.
