Hardware for XBMC (Intel DN2800MT or equivalent)?
Hello, I'm looking for computer configuration options to create a home media center (via HDMI to a TV), with an XBMC shell.
Tasks of a home media center:
+ Quietness is the main criterion
+ Small size (mini-ITX)
+ Stable video playback in HD (720p)
+ Distribution of Wi-FI Internet in the apartment , for a laptop and tablet
+ It is desirable to play video in FullHD (1080p)
+ Home Web services (temperature graph, ...)
+ Video recording from a camera (most likely a USB camera)
Intel DN2800MT Intel NM10
chipset, Intel Atom N2800 processor installed
2 mini-PCIe slots, for installing an mSata 30G SSD (1500 rubles ) and WiFi-Bt-module (1500 rubles).
Home network connection via Ethernet: 1000 Mbps.
Attracted by its price of 3400 rubles and compact size (thin mini-ITX).
Will this board be up to the task? Or is it better to take something else?

The video on this motherboard is not very good, GMA 3650
Even ordinary windows leave a trail behind them, further, the driver is only available for the 32-bit version of the operating system, XP-7, so the chipset's support for 4 GB of memory is in no way justified, anyway set the 32-bit axis. Moreover, the video drivers must immediately be updated from the Intel website to the latest ones, otherwise glitches are provided ...
Yes, and the GMA 3650 card is not an Intel development, it's a PowerVR SGX 545, so everything is bad on Linux = (
Maybe the situation is better now, but months 2-3 years ago it was very sad, there were no drivers, only for MeGo...
I would recommend finding a board based on the Ion2 chipset or AMD E-350 (Zotag Zbox and similar) or at least with 3150 graphics (which is faster in 2D), then there will be less problems will =)
It'll do just fine. I have an old Pegatron IPXPV with an Intel Atom D510 that does the above (except 1080p playback) under WinXP.
Better take some kind of motherboard with AMD E-350, it will be more powerful. I have one, 1080p without problems on Linux, there is also a rocking chair, NAS, and storage for Time Machine. There are even options with passive cooling, Foxconn for example.
Intel Atom in conjunction with NVidia ION will spin 1080p well. Built-in Intel vidyuhi usually 1080p bad pulls.
I just have an Intel Atom D510 + ION2 + OpenElec (XBMC). Shows everything.
Many Atom-ION boards have a fanless design and will therefore be quiet. There are even ready-made nettops with affordable prices.
Me given mat. the Intel DN2800MT board is completely obsolete, already like 1.5 years. It stands as a server, for me the main criterion was noiselessness. The only drawback is that it comes without a PSU, you have to buy it separately as well as the RAM, I installed 6 GB of RAM, it sees everything, not only 4, naturally with a 64-bit OS (Ubuntu Server 14.04 x64). I can’t say anything about the graphical component because I use it only through SSH. And yes, for a whole year and a half 24x7 without shutting down, except sometimes I reboot because the server is mine and I need to experiment :) atom. But so far it has never turned off. och. reliable device. I advise.
