Hard disk layout
Symptoms: a 2.5" SATA hard drive (perhaps after an improper shutdown) is no longer visible in mac os x. When you connect it to another poppy, partitions are visible under the command line, first aid will prolong with a bang. The disk cannot be mounted. We managed to save the data, now I would like to return it We tried to
kill all partitions under Windows and put the system on it. Poppy still does not see it, only cd-rom is present in the system. All sorts of programs (R-studio, HDD format, Partition Manager, Acronis) see partitions, but they can't be deleted, there is an error with sectors (now I won't say exactly what it was, each software has its own error code) Partition Magic doesn't work under win7 anymore, but I don't think it would help.
In my opinion, it would be necessary to re-partition it at a lower level than we tried to do. Can you recommend any software for this, maybe from the manufacturer (Hitachi)?

From any nix liveCD
, the partition table will be overwritten (at least MBR, at least GPT will cover it) and you will get an unallocated disk.
But it would be better to run MHDD in erase mode - to make sure that the disk is working.
The problem is simple. There are bad blocks on the screw. It is treated by running MHDD in erase waits mode or Victoria (hdd-911.com) in advanced remap mode. Then it is often necessary to perform a disk check from the same Acronis with surface check and error correction enabled.
I don’t know if it will work under Hitachi, but there is SeaTools, it has a usb-iso executable image that has the functionality you need. But I would not use such a disk, especially under a Mac.
Look at this for example . In general, I think you should give the disk a service center. Diagnostics will most likely be done for you for free, but they will tell you exactly what is wrong with the disk, and whether it is possible / worth reanimating it.
Personally, for me, all sorts of complex and problematic issues with the HDD were helped by the EASUS Partition Master program.
What's cool, it's free. Where deaf and akronis and paragon, etc.
Perhaps many will disagree with me, but if the disk is not under warranty, I would advise you (all the information has already been pulled out) to put the disk in a distant drawer and forget about it, or just throw it away and buy a new one. After all, you do not want to suddenly lose all the data stored on it after a “successful recovery” of the disk.
