GSM / GPRS shield for arduino, how to connect it in practice?

in the electronics store I saw GSM / GPRS shields for arduino, so the question arose;
- how in practice it is possible to connect these devices for remote control by external devices?
- what can really be done in practice to get acquainted with this shield?
- I will be grateful for useful information, practical skills and useful links.
thank.
PS - in particular, at the first stage, I'm interested in how to remotely reset the firmware on the arduino, and flash the new firmware remotely from a USB flash drive or hard drive?

The Arduino website has a whole bunch of ready-made examples of using this shield, here is a link to their website: arduino.cc/en/Reference/GSM
If you have already dealt with Arduino, then connecting external devices will not be difficult for you, otherwise, read it first with the arduino platform itself and everything will fall into place by itself.
In the presence of a GSM shield, the arduino can be controlled both via SMS or calls, and using a browser.
PS: remote firmware update is a great feature, but not a priority, it requires the ability to work with a bootloader, first try organizing a simple remote control. Otherwise, getting the Arduino to download the firmware file from the Internet via GPRS is a simple task.
