Groups in android contacts

The list of groups in android 2.3.5 is not displayed alphabetically, and it is generally not clear how it is sorted. What's the trouble? Google groups are sorted. How can you fight this?

Are the settings for sorting contacts in the phone somehow designed?

Contacts can be sorted by first name or last name. But this does not affect contact groups.
