Google translate eats up a lot of RAM?

I noticed that if you translate different phrases several times on one tab (i.e. translated one phrase, erased, another, etc.) about 10 times, then the tab consumes more than 2 GB of RAM, is this normal?

Yes, this is normal, the cache of your requests is stored in RAM (this is chrome, if you want to limit RAM, CPU, network, then the Opera GX browser will help)
