If you work with online video, then you should consider not only classic CDN operators, but also professional video platforms that have their own CDN under the hood and are optimized for this type of content, such as Kinescope . The price will be the same or cheaper, but there are much more prospects and convenience.
A simple CDN caching has some downsides, these are:
- It is impossible to form a full-fledged DRM protection
- Sooner or later it is required to scale and pump video transcoding
- It is impossible to provide the most accurate traffic routing and the best QoS
- There is no way to achieve 100% hit ratio
- Potential unavailability or connectivity problems with origin
When using the platform, the possibility of multi-CDN delivery is preserved, those use 3rd party CDN as a fallback, while HLS / DASH streaming protocols have built-in balancing capabilities between sources.
