glossy monitor

Worried about buying a laptop over the weekend. Unfortunately, the model that suits me in terms of parameters and price turned out to be with a glossy display (now, when working, I can see a chandelier in it behind me in some detail).
And I noticed that at least 90% of all laptops in the store have such a poor display.
And I had a righteous question: why do manufacturers so stubbornly produce such laptops, which are clearly inferior in everyday use to similar models with a matte display.
So far, I see only one reason: the gloss looks very cool in a store window.
But maybe there are other good reasons?

I think that the point is that it just “looks cool”. Hi-tech and all that.

For me, the main thing is that when reading from the screen, the eyes do not hurt.
There is such a hybrid screen QiPixel . It's almost E-ink (you can read it with the backlight turned off due to the rear mirror) and almost LCD. It seems to be both glossy and matte, but I will give preference to matte - less glare for reading.
In the video, a comparison of the screens of a well-known brand and this new product.

Replacing the screen is quite easy - you just insert a cable, and if the laptop screen case does not quite fit, then these are annoying little things :).
But now I'm waiting for a review of the QiPixel screen and adequate feedback from Russian users about it. And it would be nice if QiPixel came out with a screen size of at least 17" for laptops, not netbooks.

I doubt. On expensive models with designer cases, gloss is also everywhere.

Well, they answered themselves. Marketers are often responsible for the parameters of the device in offices. Which is the main thing, forgive me, to push the goods to the buyer. And it’s better to push a product that looks beautiful on the window. After all, blondes and other individuals who do not understand computers by their appearance are much more than us, pros, who understand what a glossy display is fraught with in everyday use. And for which those 10% of the goods remain, which often cost more because of their pro-orientation.

I think this is also a race of manufacturers for numbers. a glossy monitor has higher indicators (brightness, contrast, viewing angle) than a matte one. although it is sometimes more convenient for the end user to use the latter. Generally a private matter.

More pop - people like it for some reason. Inexplicable.

1) really cheaper
2) looks more spectacular in the window, as you said
3) “people hawala”

On a glossy screen, the picture is "juicier" and more contrast with the same quality of the display itself. If the lamps do not hit the screen, then movies and toys look better on such a display. Since the majority of monitors and laptops are positioned as entertainment devices, the screen is made glossy. Business models are usually matte.

A glossy screen is better than a matte screen in some cases:

That is, when a glossy screen has glare, a matte screen has an overall backlight of the same intensity (and a corresponding decrease in contrast).

Quite a relevant question, I myself recently chose a laptop for myself, at first I wanted HP, but after reading the reviews, it turned out that the screen only gets dirty, dust, etc., they gave an example when even from a piece of paper in a laptop, there were micro-scratches on the edge of the monitor.
This is the reason I bought myself a ThinkPad with a matte display.
