Glitched fonts (Linux Mint 8, xfce)?

Recently, a pack of updates came, after which funny problems with fonts began - imm.io/media/26/26gK.png . The updates were harmless in theory, browsers were updated and some libs for python were updated.
Before that, such a font was only in some places in OpenOffice, and now it is throughout the system. Moreover, the problems are only with the Latin alphabet, Cyrillic characters are displayed correctly. There are no problems with the font itself inside web pages and text / code editors, everything is also displayed correctly - imm.io/media/26/26hg.png
Maybe someone has encountered such a problem and knows how to solve it?
