GitHub or wiki?

Guys, this is a question.
There are some pieces of code from different languages, I sometimes use them over time.
But they are all stored in running projects. And sometimes it's hard to remember in which of the projects the piece I need lies.
I want to make some repository of code that can be obtained. For example, tags.
And the question of what is better to use is to use github, I am writing about it, because I haven’t got it myself yet and, accordingly, I don’t really understand its capabilities, except for storing code versions. Or get yourself some documentation on some kind of wiki engine?
What do you think, what would be better?

For pieces of frequently used code, gist.github.com is a better choice . For fast loading, there are plugins for popular code editors.
