Frontend build: what are the ways to load a vendor like bower?

I'm interested in the ability to download libraries to a specific folder so that you can connect from there, like bower_components.
It is not always convenient to connect from node_modules, especially if the library contains pictures or fonts.
PS: bower'om will not be used for my own reasons, so please do not offer this option.
