From a blogging CMS to a large online store. Is it really that important?
Hello! For a long time, it can be said, a number of questions on this topic have been tormenting.
Do you think there will be a big difference between the fact that I will make an online store on wordpress or on Bitrix, if the conditions of the final product are the same? I'm interested in your opinion, both from a technical point of view and from the point of view of product design in general.
It’s just that in my experience I have set up a lot of stores on different platforms, and, frankly, you can consider me an idiot, but I’m very used to the wordpress + woocommerce bundle. Not only are these open source platforms, they are also constantly updated and there are a million plugins for them to create a store of any complexity, and besides, if you are familiar with the architectural part of the engine and plugin, then what prevents you from writing modules yourself? This is my personal opinion, what do you think?

Bitrix is not as good as it is commonly thought. Roughly speaking, he just has a good reputation and with a slight touch of "elitism", and the costs of programmers and content managers are growing several times at once at least. And do not forget that Bitrix itself is paid.
Uh .. well, Bitrix is worse in comparison with anything.
The only way to make Bitrix work at least somehow adequately is to put it on ssd. 400k files in a minimal installation - it's not for you to shit in sneakers, the disk gets tired of running on seeks.
Well, it costs ... Expensive.
There are a bunch of specialized nice CMS. At one time I liked ShopCMS (which is Russian) - everything is there, nothing from above was ever needed. An unlimited license also cost a penny (cheaper than one Bitrix instance). It is also undemanding to the server. The store rises much faster than on WP.
Another question is what you do well with WP - look at alternatives. You already know what you need and what will fit.
And about the difference - no, there is no difference for the buyer (buyer in the online store). The difference is in the uncle with the gold chains that these stores order. There is a difference for investors, for whom Bitrix is serious, but "a schoolboy will do it on WP." Those who really understand the issue from customers - they write a scalable store on RoR / Django (in the sense that it can work in a cluster) for the same money for which they would do the same on Bitrix. Just for myself, without a ton of legacy.
For PS WP looks much nicer, again.
We ourselves do a lot of things on wp, even crm and erp systems that bypass competitors.
But it is stores that do not risk yet. It will be more expensive than even proprietary bitrisk, because it is a showcase that should interact well and integrate with external glitches such as payments or delivery or 1s. And under wp, the risks and costs are higher than under Bitrix or Simple.
If you need a cheap store, then it is better to take Bitrix or Simple.
If you need speed and scalability and functionality and have money, then wp is better. IMHO.
Wanted to pass, but..
This is enough to not associate commercial projects with open source at all !! NEVER!!!
If you do not understand this, I'm sorry, but I feel sorry for your customers..
I fully support you, I also love WordPress and I’m still doing my projects on it, right now I decided to make an online store and put woocomerce on it, I use it quietly. And at work there already as it is necessary, I work with different CMS.
