Freezes and lags when setting RAM to 3200 MHz, what's the problem?

I took a hyperx fury 2x8 RAM at 3200 and when I set it to 3200 MHz in the BIOS in games, the FPS drops, if we say it was 350 in the COP, then it becomes 70 processor i5 8400
motherboard: msi z370-a pro. Is it because of the processor? Or you need to adjust the timings, just checkmate. The board supports 4000 MHz RAM.

@vabka

Increasing the frequency can lead to a decrease in RAM bandwidth due to the increase in timings. So yes, the timings need to be adjusted.
IMHO, if the performance suits, then you do not need to overclock.
