Freelance C++. Where to start and how to continue?

I am a 2nd year student at the university, I have long wanted to start freelancing in programming, but I can’t really decide what exactly I need to study in order to do this. On exchanges, 90% of orders are to rewrite code from some language to C ++, or write for some platform. At the university, of course, they don’t give such knowledge (or haven’t given it yet), I decided to do self-study, my friend advised me to read Eckel, Philosophy of C ++, but there, in fact, only the basics, but application programming is required, so to speak. So why continue to study C ++, in what direction, so that at least there is an opportunity to do simple things that are in demand on the market? And should it at all?

Simple but marketable things in C++ are fantastic.
If you want simple ones, but in demand on the market , then it's better to switch to java/c#/etc.
If you want c++, then you need to choose a niche (something complex and highly specialized) and develop in it. There are a lot of orders on Upwork to write code in c / c ++ for some new piece of hardware, they either send you such a toy or give you very detailed docks. In my opinion, games are also a good option for C++, especially for mobile phones, because Unity and UE still do not give a good picture with tolerable performance out of the box.

a question from a parallel universe ─ what exchanges are 90% of C++ orders on?
before it’s too late, look into the direction of something more bready, c ++ is a good thing, but it won’t feed you on freelancing.

From experience - an excellent choice for a lab student at his own university. The language is known, the tasks are known and 99% the same - i.e. the execution time cost is simply zero. Of the shortcomings, only the seasonality of orders, because those who cannot make labs themselves usually remember them before the session.
And for the money ... when I was studying, the price tag was 100 rubles for a lab (i.e. at the then rate it was $ 10-$ 30 per hour, which is not bad for a student)
