Firmware for WiMAX modems

I understand here with firmware for WiMAX modems. Several questions arose. I hope there are knowledgeable people here.

Is it true that the number of chips is small?
One, two, well, maybe three. And everyone is just working on their own version of the firmware, reworking a certain template, which, perhaps, is issued by the chip manufacturer itself.

Is there a way to quickly change the firmware?
For example, I arrived in another city. The operator I always use doesn't work. I want to change quickly. In the modem software, I press a couple of buttons and voila! Even more life situation. I am sitting in Moscow somewhere in the center. Yota wheezes and strains, I check comstar - it works. I work through comstar.

I have a feeling that all this is already somewhere on some site, but I could not find it.

via external modems.
Three platforms as far as I know.
Samsung, Beceem Tarang, Seowon.
On Samsung - SWC-U200 and SWC-E100 from Yota
On Beceem - Yota Jingle, Comstar 2501 (Smith Micro), Clear, Freshtel USB
Seowon did not hold in his hands, there is a chance that there is inside Beceem.
The most versatile is Beceem, it can be used for Yota and Comstar, as well as for Clear with the right drivers and a connection manager. They put the jingle on comstar, comstar on clear.
Freshtel had either other frequencies, or a different range, and modems from it are useless in the networks of other operators, even with a similar platform.
Samsung can be made to work with comstar, but not quite correctly.

by laptops.
Intel 5150 (WiMax+WiFi b/g) and Intel 6250 (WiMax + WiFI b/g/n) are the most versatile chips. What to put - it will work with that, the only difficulty is switching between Yota and the rest - Comstar, for example, works with native Intel software, and Yota puts its own, which crushes native.

If this is so critical, buy an Intel 5150 + USB adapter. It will not be necessary to suffer with firmware and other nonsense.
