Feeling that you missed something at the beginning of training?

I'm not exactly new to programming. I have been studying Java + Android for 5-6 months already. I am studying at IT University. But here is the feeling that there is no solid foundation or the feeling that I missed something at the beginning of training. I just started learning programming with the Java language, and not with general concepts, abstractions of algorithms and data structures. I just chose a language, chose a book, and read cover to cover. It helped me, I began to understand OOP, etc.
But at the same time, as if, knowledge was in fragments, fragments. Just imagine that you missed a couple of days at school and did not understand a new topic, it seems that you can continue to study, but suddenly if this topic comes across on the control, you won’t decide, that’s the same feeling.
Is it worth it now to return to these basics and general topics like: Computer Fundamentals, Operation Systems, Data Structures and Algorithms, Networking, Compilers, DataBases, Software Engineering. Do you think the developer needs this knowledge? Or to score on all this?

It seems to me that all this is useful, but not necessarily
Everything will come only with practice
