Falling off hdd from raspberry pi 3b+?

Good afternoon.
Maybe someone came across.
Connected hdd to raspberry installed owncloud everything works. But sometimes (not every time) when you reboot the raspberry, the system stops seeing the disk. Sometimes it's just that owncloud doesn't see it, and sometimes it's not even visible in df -h . Although when scanning devices, the disk is shown.
I scanned the disk for bad sectors badblocks -sv /dev/sda2 found nothing, like everything is ok.
Sometimes sudo ntfsfix /dev/sdb1 helps but not always, and already a couple of times it was necessary to format the disk to allow it. There are some mistakes.
Maybe I'm not rebooting or disabling the raspberry correctly? I use the standard commands reboot and shutdown -h now
Thank you.

@ghostiam

Had the same problem, only with Orange-PI.
I decided to buy an HDD box with external power from the network, plus, it became possible to connect 3.5 disks.
