Fail2ban and iptables (ufw) need to be combined?

Hi all!
I wanted to ask the people's mind a question - how much does it make sense to install fail2ban, together with iptables, if only certain IP addresses are still protected in the firewall to access SSH to the server? Will it not turn out that this is some kind of overhead to protect the server?
