Extending a work visa in Canada - a formality or not?

Hello. I have a question for you. I was planning to go to Canada for a 1 year study. My only hope is to get a work permit after my studies. For immigration, I will need to extend my work visa 2 times in order to comply with immigration requirements. I have a big fear about extending my work visa.
Please tell me the extension of the current work visa - is it formal and you should not worry, or can they still refuse to extend my visa?
And does it depend on my current nationality? That is, if, for example, I'm from Japan or Kazakhstan. Thanks in advance! I really hope for an answer.

Visas are handled by the host on the other side. They know how and how much to extend.
