Encryption in Jabber?

How realistic is it to intercept jabber correspondence?
Is TLS/SASL encryption decryptable? How costly is it?
Real life example: a public wi-fi network, one of the users is chatting in jabber.
Can other network users intercept the correspondence? If not, how realistic (fast/costly) is it to decipher?
