Edge select loop not working in Blender 2.81/2.82, is it just me or has something changed?

Good day!
Finally updated Blender to version 2.81.
I didn't change any settings during installation.
Edge loop not working. In the settings, turned on / off the emulation of a 3-key mouse - no effect (I tried it with Alt held down and just double-clicking and even right-clicking).
Polygons stand out without problems, but not edges! Through the select-> Select loops -> Edge loops menu, there is also zero effect.
Tried and 2.82 - similarly.
Linux system, Ubuntu 19.04 (I tried it on others - similarly).
I'm wondering if the behavior has changed? How to highlight now?
