DVD drive not visible in Acer Aspire 5520?

Some time ago, the CD / DVD drive in the Acer Aspire 5520 laptop stopped being detected (in Windows Explorer). Naturally, no discs are read.
Could this be due to some problems with lasers or some other optical elements? Or if this were the case, then the drive would still be defined as a device? Do I understand correctly that cleaning these optical elements / sensors will not help?
I tried to remove the drive to check the contacts and the possibility of self-replacement with another drive, but, to my shame, it did not work. That is, if you open a complex-shaped cover at the back, you can get access to memory modules, a fan, a hard drive, maybe. not even the processor, but there is no direct access to the DVD ROM (unless I've overlooked something).
Does anyone happen to have experience disassembling the Acer Aspire 5520?
And yet, is it possible to detect / diagnose an error in any programmatic way? Maybe some conflict of resources, etc.? OS - Windows Vista.

about disassembling - it’s easy there: we unscrew the largest cover, unscrew the tricky bolt and push the drive out.

The same problem, I discovered quite by accident and I don’t even know when it arose, but it doesn’t really soar, since there is another laptop, and I practically don’t use disks. If you find a solution, please post.

Acer 5520 is still crap.
First, the drive died, then the memory turned off, I had to change it, fortunately, there were a couple of modules lying around at home. Now the video card is dead. Replacement - half the cost of the laptop.
Put it in a junk box. :(

Due to the aging of the laser, there may be a similar situation. Faced similar in normal drives. To cut off the option with OS problems, you can try to take a few bootable CDs (and DVDs) and try to boot from them. I don’t remember specifically 5520 now, but usually laptops, on the back, in the drive area, have a screw that holds it. After unscrewing it carefully, the drive can be pulled out.

by the way, the orthodox method of finding an error is in hardware or in software:
1. download linux
2. install
3. check if the drive is working
4.…
5. well, you understand
, since the same software error in lin and in Windows is practically excluded, then it is installed for sure - whether the drive or Windows is dead.

If it is possible to borrow a USB DVD drive from someone, load some Live CD from it and check if the “native” DVD Drive is visible. And if it is visible, is it operational. This is all provided that the BIOS supports booting from USB (if the computer is relatively new, it most likely does, but there may be exceptions).
