DOS attack through GoldenEye and xerxes in Kali, PC freezes, why?

Has anyone worked with these utilities? The site (test, of course))) puts it, but things don’t go any further - the PC hangs. Why? Not enough RAM?
Is it possible to protect against such attacks without involving services like Qrator, CLoudflare? (answer reveal where to edit which configs, how to configure ITU or IPS)

From which are you launching the attack?
Run top and show us.
As far as I understand, you can protect yourself from DoS (not DDoS) without problems - iptables, fail2ban, Wordfence plugin for Wordpres, etc.

It is possible that the attacking side cannot withstand such a strong flow to send requests.
