Domain takeover. Should I wait for release?

On January 21, one domain suitable for me is released. Assume that the owner did not renew. How long will the domain be assigned to the owner? Somewhere they write a month, somewhere five days. Does it depend on the registrar? Does it make sense to wait at all?

Some registrars "at their own expense" extend for another 1 year and put up for auction after 6 months. During the first 6 months it can be redeemed by the former owner.

it all depends on the domain (generic TLD like .com .net or country code TLD .ru .de .es) and registrar.
Generics first hang for 45 days in the reactivation grace period. during this time, the registrant (domain owner) can restore it for the regular price. After that, the domain falls into the redemption period. You can still restore it, but it will cost more. Different registrars charge different fees from $40 to $200 + standard renewal price. This period lasts 30 days. And at the end of it comes Pending Delete for 5 days. The domain cannot be restored from this phase.

Interception or backordering only makes sense if the domain is already in redemption. those. there is a high probability that the owner will not renew the registration.
