Does Youtube redirect from the old channel url to the new one if you choose your own?

After 100 subscribers, it becomes possible to choose a beautiful custom url.
I have an option in the applications to go to the channel.
Users may not update the application for six months.
What happens if they use the old url ? Redirect or 404?

A channel can have multiple urls.
Creating a pretty url does not remove links from the channel id.
Feel free to include a beautiful link.
