Does writing coredump affect performance?

Does enabling coredump recording affect the performance of a running program?

The dump is created when the program exits (for example, when the process receives the SIGSEGV signal), i.e. at the time of recording, it somehow probably affects, but the rest of the time I think that it does not. Didn't check it myself.
