Does Ubuntu 11.10 (with Chrome open) hang sometimes?
The symptoms are as follows: the disk usage indicator is on (I have an SSD), the mouse cursor moves normally, but the system hangs tightly, does not respond to clicks and hot keys. After some time, the system leaves, usually closing Chrome helps (if you can click on the closing cross a bunch of times). Therefore, there is every suspicion that it is he who hangs the system. Chrome has been installed for a couple of years now, hasn't cleaned the history, maybe something should be cleaned for it?

There was a similar time, in 10.04 chromium 18 with 30-40 tabs suddenly began to eat memory, swelled up to 20GB, climbed into the swap.
But the system did not hang, it just became very thoughtful. After closing the tabs and restarting chromium, it didn't happen again.
If it repeats, as an option, update chrome, try the chrome-chromium options.

Similar situation with chromium 36.0.1985.125 Ubuntu 14.04. I'm looking for a way to reduce the priority to it at startup, so that it would be easier to close the tab.
