Does the rel="nofollow" property still affect search engines?

I was convinced that external links with rel="nofollow" do not affect positions in search engines, but Yandex and Google consider them in the webmaster. Okay, they can count, but this will not affect the attendance, I thought.
But no, from publications in various magazines that have links with rel="nofollow" the number of visitors from search engines increases noticeably.
Yes, I know that everywhere they write that rel="nofollow" does not convey weight, but it's not about weight, but about visitors and statistics.
Have you experienced similar situations?
Visitors are not robots

What do you mean by influence? The transfer of weight is more likely to occur, it’s not in vain that ways have been invented using js to remove links. When assessing the quality factor of the link mass, the tag is most likely not taken into account. This means that having nofollow links to promoted pages is useful. Also, given the research on google filters, having nofollow links in the link mass reduces the risk of the filter.

As for me, the best way to close a link from indexing is through js scripts, since the effect of closing links through nofollows has not been reliably proven. They also write that the weight of the site does not follow the link from nofollows, but does not remain on the site, but is simply lost.
