Does the number of files in a folder affect the speed of working with a file?

Good afternoon! Does the number of files in a folder affect the speed of working with a file (in the same folder)? There is a /cache folder and in total there will be about 300,000 files in it (maybe even more). Is tree architecture necessary? No one will go there as a file manager. And if so, what is the maximum number of files to store in one folder? Thanks in advance!

It's better to break it down into a tree structure. Programs will be able to work with the file without problems, but if you need to read the list of files from the directory = there will be wild brakes.
