Does the main page have to be Index.html?

Actually the question is, is index.html some kind of agreement or can I somehow change it somewhere so that the application starts from some other page?

You can change.
But this is the default value for the index page in the web server settings. Also there is usually index.php, index.htm, and the order matters.
If you want your application to run immediately on any hosting without reconfiguration, it is better to stick to the default settings.
