The number is a recognition of 0 or 1. So the quality does not change. But the analog signal is subject to interference along the entire length of the cable. But dvi, hdmi cables are much shorter than vga.

Of course it does. The fact that the transmission of digital streams is used does not cancel the attenuation and distortion of the signal when transmitted over a cable. The TMDS serial data transmission format with the transmission of three channels with a bandwidth of up to 3.4 Gb / s per channel does not have transmission reliability, that is, any signal loss leads to image distortion. As with the transmission of a high-frequency analog signal over a cable that has parasitic capacitance, inductance, resistance and is subject to the influence of external noise and interference (although a differential signal is transmitted here), the signal is attenuated and noisy, so there is a limitation on the length of the cable depending on its parameters and signal level of the TDMS transmitter, as well as the parameters of the signal itself. For Dual Link, this is especially important. It is possible to increase the length of the cable when using additional transmitters. Usually a high-quality cable with a length of up to 10 meters is used, more - an additional amplifier-shaper is already required. But even with a 3m cable, image quality can be disappointing if the quality of the cable itself does not meet the necessary requirements, which is typical for many inexpensive cables sold in "computer" stores.
