Does not accept the key after reinstalling windows?
Hello.
There is an asus with windows 8 installed on board. It was
updated to windows 10 (the computer is not mine, but I work on it now) it was updated a long time ago, it will not be possible to roll back.
Since I did not know the key, I received the key using the vbs script, installed windows 8.1, but it does not accept the old key.
why and what can be done?
Thanks in advance.

This key will not work, it is a key for the manufacturer.
OEM activation of Windows goes through the BIOS and is called SLIC.
You will need to regenerate the SLIC certificate.

You will only need to find the SLIC certificate from ASUS, you don't need to touch the bios, it's already there.
You need to:
1) Find the MSDN image according to your edition.
2) Mount (or rather open in UltraISO) the downloaded image.
3) Add the "ei.cfg" file to the sources folder (create it in notepad) with approximately the following content:
[EditionID]
Core
[Channel]
OEM
[VL]
0
If you originally had Windows 8 on your laptop, then this is the key to it, and not to 8.1.
Accordingly, install Windows 8, drive in the key if it asks, and does not pick it up right away as it should, and then upgrade to Windows 8.1
